Gen 2 Component Choice: Brakes

At Privateer, we don’t just build frames that take a beating and keep going—our bikes are ready to go the distance, right down to the last bolt. That’s why both the Privateer 141 and 161 come kitted with durable components, the same kit we choose to run on our own bikes.

It’s all too common in the bike industry to cut corners on spec, but that’s not our game. We’re here to keep you shredding trails, not replacing parts.

This journal series is all about the components we trust. We’ll take you through what’s on your Privateer 141 & 161, starting with the brakes.
For serious stopping power, we chose the Hayes Dominion A4—a four-piston brake proven on World Cup Downhill tracks and on the EDR circuit. It was a no-brainer to fit them as standard on our hard-hitting trail and enduro bikes.

The Hayes Dominion A4 uses a four-piston caliper design and an ergonomically crafted lever that offers incredible modulation and stopping power. In their wisdom, Hayes even designed a comfy one-finger brake lever running on sealed bearings, creating one of the most satisfying lever feels in the game.

These are the brakes that most of the Privateer crew run on their own bikes, so it only made sense to spec them on our complete builds.
We love these brakes, and the media agrees—they consistently rate the Hayes Dominion A4 as one of the top-performing, high-power brakes for trail, enduro and even downhill.

BikeMag
"...combines great lever feel with clever features and easily controlled power”

PinkBike:
“winner in every sense”

NSMB:
“...no other brakes that feel like new after so much trail time with so little maintenance.”

Loam Wolf:
"...they feel the same today as they did on my first ride.”

If they’re good enough for the press and good enough for us, we’d have been mad to spec anything else for you!

Stay tuned for more component highlights coming your way soon. We’re stoked to share our picks for high-performance, long-lasting, and downright sick components!
