Whether you're a seasoned dirt jumper or a thrill-seeking novice, the Privateer DJ101 is built with capable geometry, lightweight construction, and reliable components that will have you hitting the local riding spot in no time.
The development of the Privateer DJ101 began with a simple realisation the fun doesn’t end when the trail does. Instead, we found ourselves drawn to the pump tracks and dirt jumps, or sneaking off to the local skatepark during our lunch breaks to extend play.
Looking around the racks at the Privateer headquarters, the passion for riding dirt jump bikes was palpable. Inspired by this collective enthusiasm, we set out to create a bike that encapsulated what we cherished most about hitting the local riding spots with our mates.
Our aim for the Privateer DJ101 was to offer the same principles as we had with our full-suspension bikes; a sorted frameset, confidence-inspiring geometry, and a no-nonsense build kit, all in a package ready to rip out of the box.
Dialled Frame
The DJ101 is designed to cater to riders of all skill levels and riding styles, with a geometry that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Its short chainstays and horizontal dropouts give riders the option to shorten or lengthen the rear end to suit their riding style and the chunky dropouts provide durability for those inevitable overshoots and cases. With a 410mm reach, the DJ101 offers stability and plenty of room to manoeuvre on high-speed flow trails, while the 69-degree head angle strikes the perfect balance between quick steering response and high-speed confidence. These features are all wrapped up in a durable hydroformed 6061-T6 aluminium frameset.
No Nonense Build Kit
Like with all Privateers, we've kitted the bike out with a well-considered build kit. Up front we have fitted the Manitou Circus Expert fork with 100mm of suspension travel and alloy stanchions to reduce weight. The Circus' air spring and ABS damper are easy to tune to you can achieve your perfect setup. Keeping you running fast and smooth are, a pair of Vee Tire Co. XCV dirt jump tyres, designed specifically to keep on rolling, and when you need to control your speed, we have fitted a powerful Clarks M2 dual piston hydraulic brake. The rest of the specification is burly, no-nonsense, ride-hard-from-the-box equipment that won't keep you from having a blast from morning to evening.
Easy to live with features
We also want to be sure that the DJ101 is easy to live with and simple to maintain. We use a standard tapered head tube with a common headset standard for compatibility with modern MTB forks and use a threaded BB so you can run MTB or BMX cranks. We chose externally routed cable/hose guides to simplify maintenance and provide easy access for adjustment and replacement.
Bar Spin Ready
For riders who have bar spins and tail whips in their repertoire, the DJ101 comes with tabs that allow the installation of a gyro meaning no more tangled hoses/cables.

Geometry
Working with our sponsored riders, our engineers worked hard to bring the same level of confidence and responsiveness we all know and love from the 161 over to the Privateer E161. For the E161, we've slackened the seat angle to 78.7 degrees to place the rider over the rear wheel to get the traction down when tackling loose, steep climbs where the torque from the Shimano EP8 really comes into its own while retaining a 64-degree head angle that keeps the front wheel nicely planted for immense levels of grip.
The Privateer E161's forward-thinking geometry includes size specific chainstay lengths, which increase from 446mm in the P1-P2 sizes to 456mm on the P3 and 466mm on the P4. This increase in chainstay length is proportional to the increase in reach and grows as we size up. By keeping the front centre to the rear centre weight bias ratio as close as possible, we can ensure that each size of Privateer E161 shares the same agile handling and confidence-inspiring stability so all sizes of riders can enjoy a high-performance riding experience.

All Privateer bikes are designed to ensure ease of service and minimise faff. On our non-assisted bike, we always route cables and hoses externally for ease of access. With the Privateer E161, we're able to move the cables internally while retaining ease of serviceability through the large alloy battery cover.
All cables are fastened securely in the frame to prevent unwanted rub or rattle. The convenience of external routing with the clean lines of external routing.
